Triumph – Best Cornhole Set for Kids

Triumph Cornhole Bean Bag Toss Set Great for Kids

I often get asked the question…

“What is the best, least expensive cornhole set I can get for my kids?”

Which is often followed with the explanation that the kids always want to play on my “good cornhole boards”.  And lets just say they don’t always take the best care of the gear they are playing with.  (Visions of my kids walking up my boards and then jumping off the end flash across my mind)

So, I went of searching for an affordable cornhole (bean bag toss) set that would hold up to some abuse and not break the bank.  And I do believe i found the value “sweet spot” with the Triumph Tournament Bean Bag Toss.

Triumph Cornhole Set Great for Kids

Disclaimer

This set does NOT include tournament sized cornhole boards.  Cornhole boards used in tournament play are 4 feet x 2 feet.  These boards are just under 3 feet x 2 feet.

Not a big deal for the kids, or if you don’t care about playing on regulation boards (you should).

So, to be clear, even though Triumph calls this set “Tournament Bean Bag Toss Game” they are not regulation ACA boards and should only be used for entertainment purposes!

If you want to spend a little more money and get a regulation cornhole set, check out our review on where to find cheap cornhole sets.

The Boards

You are going to get what you pay for with these boards.  The wood is thin (looks like a laminate/pressboard material) and in most places stapled together.  That being said, you don’t want the kids jumping on these things as they will break.

You also don’t ever want to leave these boards outside and let them collect dew or rain.  This material will suck up water like a sponge and ruin the set!

The boards can be aligned and velcro is used to hold them together.  There is also a carry strap that makes it easier to carry.  Unlike a full size set that can way over 40 pounds, this set comes in just over 20 pounds.

After looking at the reviews on Amazon, it looks like there are some common failures that are easy to remedy.  The two most common are loosening trim and the support beam coming off.  Both of these are easily fixed with some good wood glue.

TIP – If you want to do a little preventive maintenance, I recommend hitting up all seems with wood glue before you start using these boards (I don’t think the manufacturer used any glues during assembly…only staples).

The surface of the boards are actually pretty good looking for a fake wood laminate.  The manufacturer claims they use the “most durable scratch-resistant laminate available”…it was probably the only one they had, so it was the only one “available”.  Anyway, it’s not bad and can take some abuse.

The Bags

Just like the cornhole boards, these bags are not regulation.  While they are the correct size 6×6 inches, the weight is off by about 4 ounces.  If you are use to playing with regulation bags, these will feel extremely light and most likely impact your game (so don’t play with them – use regulation cornhole bags).

However, when it comes to the kids, having lighter bags is actually a good thing.  They are easier for them to throw, and they do less damage when the inevitable stray cornhole bag strikes you in the tea bags.

The Good

The best thing about this set is that it’s under $50 and you get everything you need to start enjoying the game of cornhole (bean bag toss).

We feel it is a perfect match for the family looking to add an extra set for the kids, or for anyone not interested in ACA regulation game play.  If you just want to have some backyard BBQ fun with friends and family, this is a good little set.

If however, you plan on playing more than a few times a year, and might entertain the idea of joining a league or tournament, don’t waste your time with this set.  Spend a little more money and get a regulation set.

One thing I love about Amazon is the return policy.  Not to mention free shipping for Prime members.  With that said, Triumph does offer a limited one-year manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

The Bad

For the price, it’s really hard to say too much bad about this set.  You get what you pay for, and as a set for the kids or just wanting to try out the game, you really can’t go wrong.

I look at it this way…

If you were to take your family out for dinner (fast food) and a movie, you would easily spend over $50 for 2-3 hours worth of entertainment.  This Triumph cornhole set should give you many hours more worth of entertainment (not to mention exercise and quality time outside).

There are a few things that deserve calling out…

The overall construction is not very good.  If you want these boards to last, I recommend adding some wood glue.  If you have a nail gun, even better.  With a little bit of glue and nails these boards should last a long time.

Also, if you are like me and have a hard time remembering to bring your toys in at night, you might want to spend a little more on a weather proof cornhole set.  Trust me, one night out in the rain or even heavy dew and these boards are going to be in bad shape.  If you want to go the all weather route, I highly recommend Driveway Games All Weather Cornhole Set.

Conclusion

For the price, this is almost a disposable cornhole set that you don’t have to feel bad about abusing.  It’s not regulation size, but if the kids are using it or you just want to have try the game out, you’d be hard pressed to find a better deal.

  1. Hi Michael! Thanks for sharing these helpful tips like this. Our kids love unique games like bean bag toss. The features and the quality of the product look decent for the price.  Definitely, something that will be good enough for the kids.

My question is do the bags come with the Cornhole Set for kids?

    1. Thanks for the kind compliment!  Yes, this set comes with cornhole bags.  They are not regulation size, which is just fine for the kids.  If adults are going to be playing, I recommend purchasing a regulation set of cornhole bags.

  2. i’ve been looking for a cornhole set for upcoming summer holiday. My cousin will visit along with his kids and I’ve been searching for some outdoor family games. I think Triumph set is suitable enough for us, because we won’t try to enter any cornhole tournament. US$50 for a few plays sounds reasonable enough. I may actually want to buy this, but just in case, do you have any other recommendation for kids friendly cornhole set as a comparison? Thanks.

    1. Summer is right around the corner!  So no better time than now to start looking for a new cornhole set. 🙂

Where else can you spend $50 for hours and hours of family entertainment?  I promise the adults and kids will love the game, and you’ll probably end up getting a new generation hooked on the game of cornhole.

In the Triumph line, there are a ton of really fun back yard games options.

One of my favorites is lawn darts.  Of course, the new “safe’ darts don’t have metal points…but the game is still a ton of fun!

Coming in a close second would have to be Ladder Toss.  There is just something satisfying about watching your balls wrap around the pole! (OK, that sounded a lot naughtier than I intended…)

Hope you all have a fun summer and get lots of opportunities to play outside with friends and family.

  3. I didn’t know there was a corn hole league or serious players in need if high quality equipment.  I just thought it was a kids game played at cook-outs. I suppose where there is competition there is always someone that wants to take to the next level, that has to win, that has to be the best.  For the rest of us, we just want to have fun. Your suggestions are helpful for us occasional players, which is probably 99% of the players.

Remember the glue-staples don’t last long.  Glue, duck tape, and string are man’s best friend.

    1. Hello there Les!

For sure 99% of us just play cornhole to have a good time while drinking some cold beverages and enjoying some BBQ.

You do get what you pay for.  And in this case, what you are paying for are staples and cheap materials.  But with a little glue and care, these boards can actually provide a lot of fun for a long time.  Glue, duck tape, and string…I have got to see a picture of some of your handy work! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by The Cornhole Les. I hope you get More time outside this summer playing fun games like cornhole.
